Pit Fit Training

“After my first season racing karts with my sons, I knew I had to do something to get into shape. I was a little concerned that since I was a club level racer, I wouldn't be taken seriously. Jim Leo and Pit Fit developed a workout routine that worked with my family, my work schedule and around my physical limitations from an old injury. I haven't been in this good of shape since I was in high school.” -- Greyson Eves, karting racer and father to 3 boys (all racers as well)

Pit Crew Training Program

In the world of auto racing, where a driver finishes is often decided by seconds. Maintaining the precision necessary for peak performance is often a major challenge for a competitive racing organization. PitFit will help your team fine-tune the most essential elements of your racing season so that your team can surpass your own goals and stay ahead of the competition.

Our teams of professional trainers focus on improving your team in these two primary areas:

Pit Crew Performance

Improving pit stop speed through testing

To better determine individual strength and weaknesses, crew members will be tested in the areas of speed, agility, strength, body fat, and reaction times. These are the areas of fitness primarily utilized in a pit stop and testing will determine where focus-based training should be.

Improving pit crew speed and agility through specific training program
Each member of the pit crew will receive an individualized training program designed to improve pit stop performance. This program will include specific exercises, cardiovascular training guidelines, and nutrition counseling for peak performance.

Improving pit stop technique with use of cutting edge video analysis software

To better enhance technique skills, pit crews will be videotaped during pit stop practices for video analysis. Using Dartfish software, the leading athlete video analysis program, our staff will break down each position and meet with crew members to determine if improvements can be made. Our staff is also available to travel to races to film the pit stops of other teams, which will provide comparison data.

Reducing risk of injury through preventive training and use of certified athletic trainers from Ortho Indy – PitFit Outreach

Quick response can often keep a minor injury from becoming a major one. Certified Athletic Trainers from Orthopedics Indianapolis will perform injury checks on team members as a way to reduce further injury. Often employees will leave an injury untreated simply due to the difficulty in scheduling appointments with a physician. The PitFit Outreach program gets proper injury assessment and ongoing rehabilitation to the employee without the hassle of lost work time.

Overall Team Fitness

Individualized health and fitness attention

The demands of life on a racing team are exhausting. One must live with long hours, extended travel, poor exercise and nutrition habits, and excessive stress throughout the season. But there are ways to improve various lifestyle aspects that allow the employee to cope better with this way of life. Our staff will design a personalized fitness and nutrition program that provides your team members with the tools to improve his or her overall health.

Improving team health and awareness through health screenings.

Often, the key motivation to make a change is simply awareness. Our staff will provide health screenings that measure cholesterol, blood pressure, weight, and height. Each employee will also be given a health risk appraisal that estimates risk of developing heart disease. All data is entered in the PitFit medical database so the employee has comparable information in future tests. This information can also be provided to the employee’s personal physician if requested by the physician and approved by the employee.

Reduced risk of danger in event of emergency

Each employee will have an Emergency Medical Information sheet (EMI) available at various locations within the team. The EMI forms are compiled in binders located at the race shop and each transporter. The information is labeled and sealed to protect confidentiality. In the event of an emergency, this information can be given to emergency medical personnel to expedite treatment. The medical information is updated quarterly with each employee as a way to maintain current information on allergies, medical conditions, medication, etc.
